How do you become a leader and innovator in New Jersey?
Think differently with partners who do the same.
How do you become a leader and innovator in New Jersey? You think unconventionally about the role of a university and find partners who are willing to pursue and stay the course with a dream that has been 10 years in the making.
Rowan University is such a leader and innovator, and its partners – in particular the Borough of Glassboro and private developers – have helped the institution gain that reputation.
Perhaps most visible among the changes on and around campus in the last decade or so is the Rowan Boulevard project, a vibrant new corridor connecting campus to town in an area once the home to aging rentals and today one of the largest municipal redevelopment projects in New Jersey.
Since 2009, the $400 million Rowan Boulevard has brought a Barnes & Noble Collegiate Superstore, Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, student and market-rate housing for more than 2,000, instructional and office space, an urgent care center, retail outlets and more to the area.
The public-private partnership comprising Rowan, Glassboro and private developers also has created a home for academic facilities for Rowan Global – the University’s online, graduate and continuing education division – and the institution’s partners at Rowan College at Gloucester County.
And it has helped the town develop into a destination for shopping and entertainment and created hundreds of temporary and long-term jobs, thereby supporting the region and growing the economy.
